Our recent lab alum, Connor Hughes MD-PhD, has matched at Duke for internal medicine!! So proud of you, Connor! You will be missed here in Colorado
CONGRATS to Dr. Connor Purdy on successfully obtaining his PhD! Connor explored how eIF3d and eIF3e mediate the translational control of hypoxia and also demonstrated that eIF3e can be inhibited by novel small molecules. To the left is Connor defending, and above is Connor celebrating with the lab wearing the iconic backwards cap. We are so proud of you and can't wait to see where your journey takes you!
Big congrats to Dr. Art Wolin for successfully defending his thesis and obtaining his PhD!! Art has been investigating the role of EYA2 in adult and pediatric brain cancers. To the left is Art explaining the context of EYA2 in two different types of brain cancer. Above is Art with the lab post-defense. We will miss you!
Congratulations Annika!! This year, she won numerous awards: Pharmacology Retreat Poster Award CO Genome Regulation Meeting - third best talk University of Colorado Cancer Center Scientific Retreat- 2nd Place Poster Award
Connor Purdy was invited by by the Early Career Leadership Council (ECLC) of the Metastasis Research Society (MRS) and gave a talk at the 20th Biennial Congress of the Metastasis Research Society (MRS) in London, June 2024, on "Targeting eIF3d/e-mediated Stress-induced Translation to Inhibit Breast Cancer Metastasis." His research focuses on a unique mechanism of protein translation that occurs when tumor cells are in a hypoxic environment; a common stressor that promotes tumor progression.
He was also selected for the MRS Advocate Research Program (MetARP), hosted by MRS and the Theresa’s Research Foundation, which pairs researchers with patient advocates. He co-authored a blog post about this experience, which can be read here:https://bit.ly/3SWroQS.
At the same meeting, Sheera was selected to received a travel award by the Metastatic Research Society to support her attendance and poster presentation around the role of an Eya3/NFkB/CCL2 signaling axis in the pre-metastatic niche at the MRS Annual Meeting in London!!
Congratulations to Kaiah for receiving a poster award for her work on The role of Eya3 in macrophages at the Molecular Biology Retreat at Snow Mountain Ranch, CO this year!
